John H.
Bakhit is our firm’s Southern California Regional Managing Attorney in the Labor Department.
He received his Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University School of Law, and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College where he graduated magna cum laude.
John has devoted his legal career to labor and employment law, where he handles claims arising out of the Public Safety Officers’ Procedural Bill of Rights (POBR), the Firefighters’ Procedural Bill of Rights (FFOBR), the California Labor Code, the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act (MMBA), the Higher Education Employer/Employee Relations Act (HEERA), contract negotiations with City, County, and State agencies, and other statutes protecting the rights of public employees.
Prior to entering law school, John served as an Oakland Police Officer working in Patrol and the Crime Prevention Unit where he regularly wrote and served search warrants, worked undercover, and testified as an expert witness in court.
During law school, John was awarded the Law Faculty Scholarship and the Certificate for Excellence in Oral Advocacy.
He also completed an internship with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office where he was assigned to the Gang Unit.
John has represented hundreds of public safety members in administrative cases, critical incidents, and criminal cases.
He has also served as chief negotiator for bargaining unit groups engaged in negotiating complex employment contracts.
Many of the firm’s corporate clients rely on John for his guidance and unique problem-solving skills in his capacity as general counsel for their organizations.
In addition to representing our clients, John is a POST-certified instructor who often gives lectures and provides training on the Public Safety Officers’ Procedural Bill of Rights, Firefighters’ Procedural Bill of Rights, disciplinary investigations, critical incident investigations, labor relations issues, unfair labor practices, and other employment related issues.
John is admitted to practice in all state courts in California, as well as, the Central and Southern Districts of the U.
S.
